WASPI compensation: where it stands
Women born in the 1950s whose State Pension age rose from 60 to 66. The Parliamentary Ombudsman found maladministration in how the change was communicated and recommended compensation; the Government has twice decided not to pay.

Government confirms it will not pay compensation after reconsidering
Having agreed in late 2025 to look again (settling WASPI's judicial review), ministers announced in March 2026 that the December 2024 decision stands. WASPI says it will keep campaigning for the Ombudsman's recommended £1,000 to £2,950 per woman.

DWP agrees to reconsider, judicial review settled
Days before a High Court hearing, the DWP withdrew its refusal and agreed to take a fresh decision, originally promised by early March 2026.

Government rejects compensation
The Work and Pensions Secretary told Parliament that most women knew their State Pension age was changing and that a compensation scheme, estimated at up to £10.5bn, would not be a fair use of taxpayers' money.

Ombudsman recommends compensation
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman found DWP guilty of maladministration for failing to write to affected women promptly and recommended payments at level 4 of its scale, £1,000 to £2,950 each.
